The Gelateria Sociale idea was conceived and promoted by Ambrogio Manenti.

The project has been implemented in Cairo so far and soon will be replicated in Gaza.

The Cairo team comprises four employees supported by volunteers from an Egyptian nongovernmental organization (NGO) and a group of long-term expatriates living in Cairo. The Egyptian NGO, "Waqfeya al Maadi", provides local operational support for the Cairo project.

A Milan-based foundation "La Casa della Carita’" supports the project by linking it with the solidarity network in Italy and hosting participation of trainees in gelato training courses.

Carpigiani group is providing free training in gelato-making at the Gelato University for some of Gelateria Sociale team.
