Everyone knows that ice-cream/gelato makes life sweeter and cooler, especially when the weather is as hot as it is in Cairo or in other middle east places.

We know first-hand how difficult it is to find affordable, high quality and locally produced gelato.

We have also seen how food serves as a universal language for bringing people together; and through our work we have learnt the importance of the solidarity that comes with offering the ‘better-off’ an opportunity to subsidize those less able to pay.

Our concept is simple. We want to bring delicious homemade ice-cream to the people, who will only pay what they can. We also want to offer a social space for interaction, for networking, and for exchange among people from different walks of life.

The Gelateria is staffed by workers with an interest in ice-cream who received an on-the-job training in the art of making gelato.

As much as possible, we are supporting local small-batch producers of milk, cream, fruit, nuts, spices, etc. to create inspired and original flavors.

The Gelateria offers a physical and virtual space for social activities that bring people together.

Opening:
The Cairo Gelateria Sociale opened its doors in Road 9, Maadi, Cairo on 14 November 2015. The formal inauguration took place on 10 December 2015.
The Gaza Gelateria Sociale will be opened at the beginning of 2017.
